Class Schedule

Adult classes are held from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. every Wednesday and 6:00-8:00 p.m. every Friday at the dojo location in Fargo, ND. We're sharing space with the ND Elite Dance school, 758 34th ST N, Suite K, Fargo, ND 58102.

This link opens a calendar with the class schedule and other events.

We have a variety of experience levels in the dojo from unranked to dan ranks. Currently everyone trains together. As learners progress and start achieving higher ranking, we may offer advanced classes as well.

No appointment is necessary to come to the dojo and watch a class. During the break or after class is over, you may speak with Sensei or any of the dojo students to ask any questions that you may have. It is preferred that you call or mail ahead to alert the instructor of your plan to visit.

Please don't expect to train on your first visit.

You can find more information about what to expect and how to prepare for the first time you train with us. Please read this section before you visit or plan to train with us.

Private Lessons are available on a "by appointment" basis, and only for students with iaido experience.

Location

The dojo address is:

Why do we call ourselves the Agassiz Dojo? We opened originally in Moorhead, MN, so we first called ourselves the Moorhead Dojo. Now that we're in Fargo, ND (just across the river AND the state line) we needed a new name. Keeping our options open and allowing for possible future location changes, we thought that Agassiz was appropriate.

If you look, you'll see that Lake Agassiz was actually a glacial lake left from the last ice age that covered a huge area of Central North America. Its area was larger than all of the modern Great Lakes combined, and it held more water than contained by all lakes in the world today.

Class Fees

To encourage full-time university, college, or even high school students to join our dojo, we offer a slightly reduced fee structure. These students must provide proof of enrollment.

  • Adult (non-student) - monthly membership $65/mo
  • Adult (non-student) - quarterly membership (3 mos) $165/qtr
  • Adult (student) - monthly membership $55/mo
  • Adult (student) - quarterly membership $135/qtr
  • Testing fees - upon passing $45
  • Private Lessons - $40/hr (Iaido experience necessary)

Affiliations

We are affiliated with the the kendo federation. Our regional branch Midwest Kendo Federation (MWKF) and also the National branch All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF).

ALL MEMBERS of the dojo must join these federations who not only provide individual liability insurance, but also the ability to test for ranking in an internationally recognized federation. In order for a person to test for ikkyu (1kyu) rank, one must attend an AUSKF event. Typically this happens at the annual iaido summer camp, or at a larger regional event. Ranks below ikkyu will be tested within our dojo.

Combined AUSKF and MWKF iaido membership is around $70/year
